This valet tray is made from Bird's Eye Maple. The reason for this pattern of wood grain isn't fully understood, but it is suspected that it occurs when a tree is struggling to get the nutrients it needs and starts a lot of small branches to quickly bring in more sunlight but it isn't able to sustain the growth and what remains behind is a group of small knots in the wood that make a beautiful display.
